<description>I am not usually given to commenting on blogs, however this &quot;sinister spin&quot; on the use of LMS systems has really caught my eye. The community college I work for has used several different platforms. At this point there is no way, I know of, to easily migrate all of the student data or the course content from one LMS to another. For example if you use BB then migrate to Desire2Learn the course content is not easily moved onto the new platform. However I am not familiar with the open source LMS platforms (moodle, drupal, sakai) so I do not know about migration issues. Ultimately I feel that we are not at the point where this is a not major problem. Although this is an issue that should remain within the minds of those pushing LMSs. I believe that we have given many technologies a blank check thus we no longer consider the implications of the use of any technology due to its ubiquitousness. Thank you for the thought provoking post.
